Scripture Union and Scottish Bible Society

The mission of the Scottish Bible Society is to provide God's Word to all people,

in a language they can understand,
in a format they can use,
and at a price they can afford.

The Society distributes Bibles, New Testaments and other Scripture-based materials, in a range of media, in Scotland and throughout the world.

Working with the churches, Scripture Union aims to make God's news known to children, young people and families and to encourage people of all ages to meet God daily through the Bible and prayer.

Welcome to the website of West Church, Haddington*. We hope that you will take a few minutes of your time to browse these pages. Our website is intended to be a source of information about the life of our church and organisations. We hope through browsing its pages, reading the Prayer for Today and viewing other pages that you find a sense of love and peace that is His and His alone

There are several links in the right panel to some excellent websites, some of which are very relevant to a Christian way of life and others relating to the Haddington area of East Lothian, Scotland. We hope that you will be blessed by visiting our website and that you find the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ in its pages.

About us

The West Church is over 100 years old. It was originally built in 1890 and is part of the Church of Scotland. It is located to the west of Haddington town centre.

Our minister is the Rev. Cameron MacKenzie ("Cammy" as he likes to be called). Cammy has been minister of the joint congregations of Haddington West Church and Garvald and Morham since 1997 and these congregations have significantly increased since his arrival, including notably, the number of young people (praise the Lord!). These joint congregations are "Cammy's" first charge as a Church of Scotland Minister since being ordained, however, he was an assistant Minister at St Catherine Argyle in Edinburgh. After becoming a Christian, he worked with the street kids in Brazil, where he met his wife. His breadth and depth of "life experience" endears him to these congregations.

Our Sunday worship takes place at 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. and we celebrate the Lord's Supper on the first Sundays of March, June, September and December. Sunday School meets at 10:45 a.m. each Sunday of the school year with a Summer Club operating during Summer holidays. A well attended crèche for very young children is available all year round. Dress as you like - there's no "Sunday best" expected - We would be very happy to see and meet with you for an informal chat over a drink of tea or coffee and some biscuits, after the service! So come along, be yourself and enjoy!

Why don't you come along to our evening services which run from September to June throughout the year? You'll find the praise band leading the service (no organ - only keyboard, guitars, flute and some eager singers giving their best). A varied list of speakers each week, makes for a wide range of topics and approaches leading to an hour (or so) of stimulating praise

The West Church is a growing, living church and has many organisations within and connected to it. One or more of these bodies uses its building every day of the week. We are currently requiring more hall accommodation for all our groups including Sunday School and for the community - the reason for our "Hall-elujah" project.

Access

Two entrances are available to our main sanctuary for Sunday worship, both of which are open each Sunday and where you will be warmly welcomed by one of our door welcoming team. Entrances are from Court Street, by way of either the most easterly double doors on our Court Street facade which includes three short flights of steps to the main sanctuary or by our Garden entrance. This is accessed by way of a gate in the wall immediately adjacent to the east of the church building  and offers a gentle slope for our less mobile friends or for those who prefer this quiet route by way of our small garden.

About You

We would invite every web visitor to activate any of the hyperlinks of these organisations to find out more about them. We continue to work to provide information on all of these groups in these pages - like our church, our web site is growing constantly, changing to meet the needs of all, so please visit in future to witness God's good work!
