Scripture
Union and Scottish Bible Society |
|

The mission of the
Scottish Bible Society is to provide God's Word to
all people,
in a language they can understand,
in a format they can use,
and at a price they can afford.
The Society distributes Bibles, New Testaments and
other Scripture-based materials, in a range of
media, in Scotland and throughout the world.

Working with the churches, Scripture Union
aims to make God's news known to children, young
people and families and to encourage people of all
ages to meet God daily through the Bible and prayer.

Our Minister
Hello,
and welcome to our church website. As minister of Garvald & Morham
with Haddington West for the last nine years, I’ve been asked to
write a brief history to introduce myself, before I say a little
about the church and the website.
I was born and brought up in Paisley, the oldest of five kids, and
left school early due to a number of factors without a single
qualification. It wasn’t so much that I got in with the wrong crowd;
I was the wrong crowd! For the years between 15 and 27, suffice to
say that life was a bit of a mess, but the turning point for me was
back in 1987, when I met some Christians. They listened to me,
talked to me and shared with me their faith in Jesus. I thank God
for my home church, St Ninian’s in Paisley, and those good folk who
welcomed me into the church and into their lives. It is in part
because I benefited so much that I want to build a church for all
sorts of people to find faith, friends and purpose.
During the years of my degree course at Glasgow University I spent
summers in Brazil working with Street Kids. It was there that I met
Dilma. We married in 1993, lived in Paisley for two years and then
in Edinburgh for a further two years during my probationary period,
before receiving the call to Garvald & Morham with Haddington West.
With church life and the care of our two sons Pedro and Lucas, our
lives are busy and fulfilling.
In creating this website, our hope is that it will be used as a tool
for more members, people and groups to have access to most, if not
all, of the groups and services that the church has to offer. It can
be frustrating to be part of the church family but not to have a
clue about who does what who offers what or whom to contact. Most
folk end up phoning me! For someone new it can be seen as a maze of
people, faces, names and numbers. The website can be updated readily
in order to add new items and keep information up to date and so
improve communication and facilitate understanding of the church and
its people.
Any church, which is seeking to honour and worship God and to reach
out into the community, will be an organic entity. Trying to become
and remain relevant in the ever-changing world we live in, and
adapting or replacing what is on offer as and when God and the
church family see fit in order to serve the community – that’s a
great challenge. It is hoped that the website will play a small but
important part in this.
God bless you all. I pray that you will benefit from this website,
from this church and from the Lord’s love for you all.
Cammy
